Pamela Lillian Isley is best known as Poison Ivy, who was first introduced to the world by DC Comics. She is one of Batman’s greatest enemies – and a love interest. The supervillainess is also a prominent eco-terrorist and uses plants to create weapons. Her sole interest is the environment
She should team up with Batman and fight off the Tony Haywards of this world.
I love her Fifties pin-up look. Creator Robert Kanigher reportedly modeled her after Bettie Page.
Annie Leibovitz photographed Bono and his wife Ali Hewson in Africa for the new Louis Vuitton Core Values ad campaign.
The couple posed in clothes from their own ethical fashion line, Edun (of which LVMH owns nearly 50 percent). Ali Hewson is holding the Keepall 45 bag in brown leather, co-designed by Edun and Vuitton. It is entirely hand-produced by Made, which promotes fair trade in Kenya.
All profits from the bag will go to TechnoServe in Africa. Bono and Ali are also donating their fees to TechnoServe as well as Chernobyl Children International.
The ads will run in October. Louis Vuitton and Edun are organizing an exhibition called Africa Rising from October 5 to 17 in Paris (Louis Vuitton, 1, rue du Pont Neuf) and will showcase the continent’s creative prowess.
When I was growing up, my sister’s library full of Penguin books was the next best thing to ice cream and toys. The initial attraction to these books was obviously visual: I loved the covers and the little black penguin. In fact, its trademark logo and cover designs still make it instantly recognizable today.
To celebrate its 75th anniversary, Penguin has picked out six of its favorite books for a cover makeover. Money, Waiting For the Barbarians, Bridget Jones’s Diary, From Russia With Love, The Bone People and The Broom of the System have been redesigned by some of the world’s most renowned tattoo artists and illustrators.
Below are three examples. Bridget Jones’s Diary and From Russia With Love are on top of my list and Money at the bottom - I really don’t want to see anything channeling Ed Hardy on the cover of a book.

From Russia With Love by Ian Fleming. Cover by Chris Garver, a tattoo artist who is regularly featured in the TV series Miami Ink.

Inside the sleeve of his solo album Phrazes For The Young, Strokes singer Julian Casablancas links a “phraze for the young” to each of the eight tracks. Depending on where you are in your life or in your head, these maxims, inspired by the Oscar Wilde essay Phrases And Philosophies For The Use Of The Young, can come in pretty handy.
1. Anger is weakness, patience is strength.
2. Try not to give advice you can’t follow.
3. Art is the image of life, its purpose simply to enhance it.
4. Being nice is most important when others are not.
5. Drunkenness is cowardice, sobriety is loneliness.
6. People don’t want to be greedy, they want to be happy. But they’re often too greedy to notice.
7. Talk about those absent is if they were listening in.
8. Unlocking life’s mysteries is the responsibility of dissatisfied people.

R.J. Cutler is soon going to be known as a fashion(able) documentarian. After showing the behind-the-scenes activity at Vogue in The September Issue and The Met Ball, a two-part series documenting the making of the 2007 Met Ball, he is about to reveal his new film about hip fashion label Rag & Bone.
Cutler filmed the design duo, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, as they prepared for their Fall 2010 show. Expect the usual pre-show drama, backstage chaos and great clothes!
The documentary is sponsored by Starbucks (read about the coffee house’s venture into film here) and will be available for viewing on frappuccino.com and rag-bone.com.
